Kailan McGee – Lady of the Moon Album Review 🌙

By

Emerging from Cobourg, Ontario, Kailan McGee is the kind of artist who treats music like a diary you’re lucky enough to read. There’s an openness to her storytelling that feels intimate from the very first listen, like she’s letting you in on something personal, a little mystical, and entirely her own.

Her latest project, Lady of the Moon, is built around a concept that’s just as dreamy as it sounds. Inspired by folklore surrounding the Black Forest in Southwestern Germany, the album follows the lunar cycle, eight songs for eight moon phases, released in sync with the Pink Moon on April 1st, 2026. It’s intentional, atmospheric, and rooted in myth, which already sets the tone before you even press play.

From the opening track, “Black Forest,” you’re immediately pulled in by crisp vocals and strong instrumentation. The guitar work stands out here, it feels grounding against the album’s otherwise ethereal world. The title track, “Lady of the Moon,” leans fully into that dreamy energy. The production feels floaty and immersive, and honestly, this is the kind of song that would hit live.

“Song of Phaedora” feels cinematic in the best way, dark, haunting, and made for a movie moment. That same visual quality carries into “Bellflower,” which also feels like it belongs in a carefully crafted scene. Kailan clearly has a strength for creating soundscapes that feel bigger than just the song itself.

“Hellfire Tonight” picks up instrumentally, bringing a bit more energy into the project, though the vocals get slightly lost at moments. Still, the momentum it adds is appreciated. On the other hand, “The Legend of the Wild Moon” taps into a coming-of-age feeling, nostalgic, reflective, and quietly powerful.

“Ghost of Eryndor” opens beautifully, with delicate vocals that feel almost weightless, while “Clairvoyance” closes the album on a soft, polished note. It’s a fitting ending; pretty, intentional, and cohesive with the world she’s built.

Overall, Lady of the Moon is a sonically cohesive project with a clear vision and aesthetic. At times, the songs blend together in tone and style, and a bit more variation could have elevated the listening experience even further. But there’s no denying the beauty in what Kailan has created, it’s immersive, thoughtful, and full of potential.
